The talk will introduce the Harmonia Village at Dover, a unique facility providing care for people living with dementia (PLWD). It is based on conversion of existing housing and promotes free movement of residents throughout the site including the external spaces.

It is part of a European funded project called Community Areas of Sustainable Care and Dementia Excellence in Europe (CASCADE) with project partners in Holland, Belgium, France and England. The concept includes research on a monitoring system which will generate a behavioural baseline for each resident.

The data will be interpreted by an AI system which will benchmark the individual against their unique behavioural baseline in real time, only alerting staff when there is a significant deviation or an incident such as a fall. The AI system will also identify trends and correlations which will be interpreted by clinical staff and their analysis fed back into the system.

Over time this will allow the system to provide further help and advice to staff. The system will have functionality which is aimed at reducing unnecessary interventions by staff and at reducing non-productive activities.
