BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT is delighted to announce they will be working with the Ministry of Defence (MOD) for a further two years. This builds on success already achieved during the 2017 launch of the membership programme, which has provided professional registration and recognition across the MOD digital and IT specialists.
Charlie Forte, MOD CIO said: “To develop our digital and IT skill levels and help meet ambitious transformation targets, it is important that we invest in our people and embrace industry skills standards as a foundation to professional development. Working with the BCS is an integral part of this strategy and engenders a spirit of continuous improvement. Having access to accredited development opportunities, educational materials and a network of thought leaders is hugely beneficial and plays a significant role in our professional development tool kit. I commend all digital and IT specialists to embrace the development opportunities being offered.
The MOD landscape is evolving every day through the application of emerging digital technology. IT expertise is vital - particularly in the military environment where safety is key, and now more than ever, it’s essential that IT specialists have a way to demonstrate their professionalism and integrity.”
Through BCS, individuals can benchmark their knowledge, competence and skills against IT industry standards using SFIAplus, the leading industry capability and skills framework. This provides a clear, independent recognition of credibility, commitment and value to both the individual and the MOD. Through BCS organisational membership, the MOD receives additional engagement such as professional standards workshops / webinars and links to speakers as well as support at events. Membership provides career development tools, networking opportunities through local branches and specialist groups and knowledge resources.
Paul Fletcher, CEO, BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT explains: “The MOD is a strategic client of BCS and I’m delighted that they continue to recognise the value of working with BCS. This supports their drive for professionalisation; giving staff an opportunity to achieve an independent endorsement of their competence, skills, professionalism and standards. With today’s ever-changing digital landscape, BCS is a trusted reference point for the IT sector. The MOD recognises the importance of giving their staff an opportunity to drive positive change in the industry.”
