The Research Spotlight competition is your opportunity. Not only will you have the experience of sharing your thinking with a room of keen listeners, you’ll also be in with the chance of winning a prize for your work.
Where does the competition take place?
The competition forms part of the London Hopper Colloquium, which we hold in collaboration with University of Central London (UCL). It’s a free one-day event where women speak about their research. You’ll need to book in advance to secure your place.
During the event, 14 women have the opportunity to talk about their work across two 30-minute sessions, and the judges award three prizes, based on the quality of the abstract, presentation content and overall delivery:
This is the top prize, chosen by the judges. The winner receives a year’s BCS membership, £100 and an invitation to speak at next year’s event.
Our second prize second prize is also chosen by the judges. The winner receives £100.
The winner of this prize is voted for by the attendees and also receives £100.
How do I take part?
If you’re a female post-graduate student who’s carried out research in computing or a related field, you can register to attend the event and take part in the competition. You’ll be asked to submit an abstract about your research and the talk you’d like to present.
