Join us in conversation with Lella Violet Halloum FRSA, MBCS. Lella is a Digital Changemaker and Global Student Outreach Lead at IBM, all at age of just 19 years.

Lella believes that no decision about her generation – the digital generation – should be made without them.

In this fireside chat Lella will discuss:

  • Bridging the gap between industry & the classroom through lifelong learner-led activism and advocacy efforts

Lella Violet is a Digital Changemaker and Power of Youth Champion. She connects thousands of learners globally to industry leaders and policymakers, galvanizing underrepresented communities, including early professional, women and youth inclusion through learner-led, cross-sector collaborations in the STEAM industry Leading global student outreach at IBM.

Lella uses technology as a catalyst to boost employability readiness and drive the UN Sustainable Development Goals & ensure young people are at the fore of the ongoing digital transformation.

Lella is a frequent global United Nations & IBM speaker, thought leader, and advocate for lifelong learners. She strives to diversify the industry by creating unique opportunities for young people, particularly underserved & underrepresented groups and those with non-traditional academic backgrounds, highlighting young people's important role in industry and wider society.

She does so across sectors, notably, with industry leaders, global government, UN entities and grassroots digital inclusion charities, notably STEMettes.

Her efforts towards United Nations Sustainable Development Goals - Quality Education, Gender Equality, Decent Work & Economic Growth & Reduced Inequalities have been recognised as a US State Department IVLP alumn and as a recipient of the Princess Diana Award, Harvard Society Prize, a finalist in the Women of the Future Young Star category & Northern Power Women 'One to Watch' and Future Lister.

Jo StansfieldJo Stansfield FHCA, MBCS

Jo is an independent Diversity, Equity and Inclusion consultant, supporting technology and engineering organisations. She has held leadership roles in industry, including as Director for People Data and Insights at a leading FTSE 100 technology firm.

Alongside this, Jo holds a number of voluntary positions. She is a Trustee and member of Council for BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, co-chair of BCS Women, Fellow of AI ethics and audit charity, ForHumanity, and serves on the Industry Advisory Board for Techup Skills Bootcamp.

Jo began her career as an engineer, developing enterprise software for global industry, spanning oil & gas, automotive, aerospace and marine sectors. Having pivoted her focus from the technical to human dimensions of engineering, Jo now works as a Business Psychologist. She holds an MSc in Organisational and Business Psychology, with thesis research topic “Lessons for Gender and Racial Diversity within Technology”.

She brings deep understanding of the engineering culture, and lived experience as a woman within it, to her work in support of diversity and inclusion in tech and engineering domains.
