Welcome to our committee!

Being a BCS volunteer is rewarding in many ways! Balancing life, work and volunteering commitments can be difficult, even at the best of times. We are here to support, collaborate and enable BCS members involved in Member Groups throughout their volunteering journey and experiences.

We are very much the ‘how’ layer of BCS governance sharing best practice and utilising our scale to create impact enabling Member Groups to deliver the BCS Strategy in local communities. If you would like to get involved, please register your interest here by completing this form, or contact us at groups@bcs.uk.

About us

We report to Community Board which is a BCS strategic board, meaning it has delegated authority from Trustees. The principle aims of the Community Support Committee are to:

  1. Identify, develop, adopt and share good practice within the Community and encourage Member Groups to do likewise for the benefit of BCS members and in support of the Institute’s Royal Charter and strategy.
  2. Communicate to Member Groups the rules, processes and procedures that Community Board approves for their governance (the Member Group Rules), support groups in applying them and monitor their compliance with them.
  3. Recommend changes to Member Group Rules to make sure they continue to be appropriate as the Institute evolves.
  4. Consider and advise the Community Board about the establishment, amendment or closure of Member Groups in response to requests submitted.

You can find out more about our responsibilities as a committee through our Terms of Reference.
