Chartered Engineers are characterised by their ability to develop appropriate solutions to engineering problems, using new or existing technologies, through innovation, creativity and change.
They might develop and apply new technologies, promote advanced designs and design methods, introduce new and more efficient production techniques, marketing and construction concepts, or pioneer new engineering services and management methods.
CEng registrants are also variously engaged in technical and commercial leadership and possess effective interpersonal skills.
Benefits of becoming CEng include:
The criteria for registration are set out clearly in policy document UK Standard for Professional Engineering Competence (UK Spec) by the Engineering Council. With certain limited exceptions, applicants must have an academic qualification which has been accredited for CEng by one of the Engineering Institutions. The qualifications now include approximately 500 computing-related degree courses which are currently accredited by BCS.
Licensed by the Engineering Council, BCS provides an established route to achieving Chartered Engineer (CEng). If you're a current BCS member at Professional Member (MBCS) grade or above, hold a qualification accredited for CEng and you meet the Engineering Council's criteria, BCS can help you on the path to achieving your CEng status.
Members registered as Chartered Engineers may also apply for European Engineer (EurIng) and International Professional Engineer (IntPE).
‘CEng is an internationally recognised qualification which enables employment opportunities at international level’.
