Paul Fletcher, Group Chief ExecutivePaul Fletcher

Paul is the Group Chief Executive Officer and a Fellow of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Paul joined BCS in 2014 after ten years at RM Education where he was an Executive Director and Group Managing Director of the Education Technology Division.

Prior to RM, Paul held senior management consultancy roles with A.T. Kearney and KPMG. He started his career in the Aerospace Industry. Paul is passionate about the role of IT in education and society as a whole. Paul is a graduate of the Harvard Business School Advanced Management Program.

Philip Jones, Group Finance DirectorPhilip Jones

Philip has been the Finance Director of BCS since 1992 and has been part of a significant transformation of the organisation from a relatively small organisation with £3 million income to a BCS Group with approximately £25 million income and 250 staff. He trained and qualified with KPMG and gained experience in audit, taxation and corporate recovery and latterly in KPMG’s Consultancy Practice which included IT implementation projects.

As well as responsibility for Finance, Philip’s responsibilities and team include the Mergers and Acquisitions, HR, Facilities, Legal and Registrar’s activities. He is director of a number of BCS subsidiary companies and Trustee of CMA (Communication Managers Association).

Bill Mitchell, BCS Academy of Computing DirectorBill Mitchell

Bill is Director of Education at BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Bill was a member of the Royal Society’s Advisory Group for their study into computing education in school, published in January 2012. More recently, he was invited by the DfE to act as the BCS executive responsible for coordinating the development of the statutory Computing curriculum for schools, in partnership with the Royal Academy of Engineering.

Before joining BCS, Bill spent over twenty years researching into the mathematical foundations of computer science and software engineering in both industry and academia. During that time he’s been a researcher at Motorola’s European Software Research Labs and also at the Universities of Manchester, Surrey and Southampton.

Carl Harris, IT and Operations DirectorCarl Harris

Carl is Director of IT and Operations, a Professional Member of BCS and a Chartered IT Professional (CITP). Carl has been with BCS since 1998. He started his career managing and developing the BCS website and also designed and developed the Institute’s first ever online membership application system.

In 2011 Carl became Director of IT and has led a number of programmes of significant change to our infrastructure and business systems. More recently in 2015, Carl has taken additional responsibility for overseeing our Membership Operations and Customer Services functions.

David Evans, Policy and Community DirectorDavid Evans

David joined BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in 2006. He is Director for Policy and Community. After a physics degree at the University of Southampton, David started his career in IT, then moved into a variety of marketing, communications and policy roles.

He has worked in a range of organisations from technology startups to global technology firm Intel Corporation. David’s background covers science and technology, marketing and communications, public policy and politics. In addition to being a professional member of BCS, he is also a member at the Institute of Directors.

Adam Thilthorpe, External Affairs DirectorAdam Thilthorpe

Adam is the Director for External Affairs and a Fellow of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT. Adam joined BCS in 2005 as a Key Account Manager and has continued to grow his network and our profile through the IT Profession since then, holding a number of roles before joining the Executive Team in 2011.

Adam is passionate about the transformative impact that the IT profession can bring to society and enterprise, speaking regularly and enthusiastically on the topic. He has recently completed the Advanced Management Practice course at Henley Business School and his early career was with city firms Georgeson and JP Morgan Chase & Co.

Helen Fisher, Group Marketing DirectorHelen Fisher

Helen is Group Marketing Director. Helen joined BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT in 2011 after 13 years marketing experience in the aerospace, consumer electronics and telecommunications industry both in the UK and abroad.

Helen previously held posts at Sony, Bermuda Telecommunications Company and Bmi Airline, where she started her career. After having her family, Helen wanted to continue her career in a role with societal change at its core. By being part of BCS, Helen can utilise her skills, drive change and play a part in shaping a better society for us all.

Jeremy Barlow, Director of StandardsJeremy Barlow

As Director of Standards Jeremy leads on the development and management of professional standards for BCS. These standards currently include the BCS-owned Chartered IT Professional (CITP) and Registered IT Technician (RITTech) as well as other licenced standards such as Chartered Engineer (CEng) and Chartered Scientist (CSci).

Jeremy has been at BCS since 2003 and has previously managed the development of some of BCS’ leading qualifications and managed relationships with key stakeholders in the qualification sector. More recently Jeremy led a number of high profile projects within the BCS Academy of Computing before moving on to the role of Director of Standards in August 2015.

Jon Buttriss, BCS L&D CEOJon Buttriss

Jon is CEO of BCS Learning & Development Ltd and a Fellow of BCS. Jon started his career as a programmer before moving into the financial industry where he dramatically increased the efficiency of the retail branch network. As part of the International management team at Thomson NETg’s Jon faced and overcame the challenges raised by rapidly growing a business through technology change as he led the development of major $100m+ sites and web services to create dramatic growth year after year.

Latterly Jon was MD at REED Learning where he was able to use his analysis, leadership and portfolio skills to successfully deliver significant savings through outsourcing contracts with major FTSE companies. Jon is passionate and driven to create team and organisational success.

Lucy Ireland, Deputy CEO of BCS L&DLucy Ireland

Lucy is Deputy CEO of BCS Learning & Development Ltd.

Lucy is responsible for the delivery of world class standards in certification and education for the IT and digital industries.

An astute, insightful and down-to-earth business woman, Lucy has been a learning and development professional since 1993 and brings clarity to the complexities of the training sector.
