Sociotechnical Approaches to Information Systems Development
The BCS Sociotechnical Group promotes the view that in developing, using and studying ICT systems, it is essential to give due weight to both social and technical factors. This view will be supported by a programme of sociotechnically based research, analysis, education and commentary.
The work of the ST Group is founded on principles originally developed in the Tavistock Institute of Human Relations in the 1950s, adapted to meet changing social conditions and emerging new technologies.

Membership of the Group is free and may be achieved by subscribing to the electronic mailing list which provides details of Group activities.

The group runs three continuing series of lectures. In London they are held at the University of Westminster, in the north of England they are held at the University of Sunderland and in the South West they are held at the University of the West of England.
The New Sociotech: Graffiti on the Long Wall. This collection of papers reflects the aims of the BCS Sociotechnical Group. Sociotechnical principles are now widely used around the world in both information systems and organisational design.
