BCS is a registered charity: No 292786
We're looking for a current IT student to join the YPG's Executive Committee (all volunteers, who represent the 23,000 BCS members under the age of 35) and represent the interests of all students on IT related courses in the UK.
As the Student Body Ambassador, your duties will not be onerous, however you will bring first hand knowledge to the committee and will have the opportunity to directly influence the activities, services and opportunities that the BCS provides to its student and young professional members. You final duty of your elected year in office will be to deliver, in person and via a webcast, a graduation speech to the national IT class of 2010.
So what sort of issues could we talk about? Ideas already received by the committee include the decline in the number of students taking IT related degrees, concerns over the number of students in classes and the quality of teaching. Lots of students tell us it’s hard to find out what jobs are on offer after you graduate and that it's tricky to go about getting a work placement or summer job. As you read this, if you are already thinking of other issues and, indeed, ways to address these, then the YPG would very much like to hear from you and invite you to stand for the role of the National IT Student Body Ambassador.
This is an excellent opportunity to get involved with the IT profession and to take the lead on issues that are affecting students; as Student Body Ambassador your role will be to innovate, ask the tough questions and to chair the YPG's student work stream, who will help the successful candidate deliver on our student agenda.
Are you currently studying an IT related degree? Do you care about the issues affecting students and the IT industry? Want to have a say in the types of services you think the BCS should be delivering to its members?
The deadline for submissions has now closed.
