Summary:

For many businesses with an online presence, their domain name is the first port of call for customers. Nominet is consulting on proposals for a new domain name service that could represent a significant change for British businesses online. The proposals set out Nominet’s aim to have a positive effect on the digital economy by increasing customers’ confidence when purchasing online and enabling businesses to get online for the first time.

The BCS Internet Specialist Group is delighted to invite BCS members to an evening seminar with Nominet to learn about the proposed features which include verification of UK contact details, malware monitoring of websites, a mandatory digital signature to prevent hijacking (DNSSEC) combined with a shorter domain with registrations directly at the second level. The registry is also seeking feedback on their proposals for a phased release and processes to manage existing rights. The briefing will be followed by a Christmas Drinks Reception.  Nominet is keen to solicit BCS expertise and feedback as part of its consultation.

Further information regarding the consultation can be found on Nominet’s website.
