An evening of Tinkering

Thursday 21 February 2013

18:30 start. Pizza and networking from 18:00.

SW101, School of Computing, Cornwallis South, University of Kent, Canterbury CT2 7NF

A Kent Union society, the Tinkering Society (Tinkersoc), popular with School of Computing students, will be giving a small selection of talks on various projects that they have been working on during the last term. TinkerSoc is an electronics and engineering society, open to students from every discipline. Some of their most recent projects that have drawn attention to the society include: a Raspberry pi arcade cabinet, and software defined radio with a garden wire discone antenna.

The format will closely follow their 'Open Mic Night' format - where individuals and the society will present projects that they have been working on (including how they built it). The talk is open to discussion, debate and advice.  The talks will be given by the current committee and members of Tinkersoc.

The planned talks include:

  • Tinkersoc - A (brief) Introduction to the Society
  • A Raspberry Pi arcade cabinet (on display!)
  • Software defined radio with some garden wire
  • Short Minute Talks
  • A laser engraver (a new use for retired cdrom drives)
