St James's Palace Lunch

Celebrating 60 years - St James's Palace Lunch

As part of BCS’s 60th anniversary celebrations, we wanted to thank our members and volunteers who have made a significant contribution to our purpose of making IT good for society.

A series of regional thank you events took place throughout 2017 culminating in a special thank you lunch at St James’s Palace on Tuesday 21 November, hosted by HRH The Duke of Kent KG.

The lunch was attended by some of our most active and dedicated volunteers, members and staff. Many were nominated to attend by their fellow members and volunteers.

The lunch began with a welcome speech by BCS President Paul Martynenko and before giving his closing address, Paul Fletcher, BCS Group CEO, invited Immediate Past President Ray Long, to read a citation for an Honorary Fellowship award for Iain Thompson, BCS Vice-President, Community and an active member of the Edinburgh Branch of BCS.

It was a truly memorable occasion.

Quote from a Past President of BCS, who was a guest at the lunch

‘I would like to thank Paul Martynenko, Paul Fletcher and all concerned with the organisation of this event for the Society’s generous hospitality at this very memorable lunch.

It was delightful to be hosted by our Patron in St James’s Palace; he has been such a conscientious supporter of the Society over so many years. I particularly enjoyed seeing people from the branches and specialist groups being recognised for the contributions they have made over many years, as well as the opportunity to catch up with current and past honorary officers and executives. The concept of bringing together people from a wide range of backgrounds resulted in a very special celebration. Well done and thank you.’
