Arthur C Clarke, Author of 2001 A Space Odyssey, is famously quoted as saying that “Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.”

Chris Jobling, this Year’s Chair of the Wales South West Local Network, has been an observer of the development of computing, particularly in the area of Computer Aided Control System Design, since 1982. In this time, he has observed computing hardware evolve from minicomputers to mobile phones and the software that it executes become ever more magical. In this personal reflection on his career, he will attempt to demonstrate the magic of computing and speculate on the future.
