To be effective, Enterprise Architects have to combine strong analytical and technical skills with the social and business skills to engage with a wide range of stakeholders.  In practice, many enterprise architects devote most of their attention to the analytical side of producing architectural deliverables and may lose sight of the real needs of their sponsors, collaborators and consumers. This is widely recognised as a major factor in EA efforts that fail to gain traction.

In this event Sally Bean, an experienced enterprise architect, and Keith Flanagan, a leadership development consultant, will explore the ‘softer’ skills required  to make EA practice more human-centred and hence more effective. Since architects are naturally drawn towards frameworks and toolkits, we will be presenting a conceptual framework for behavioural skills, showing how they contribute to the use of other types of skills, and how to improve them. The session will be a lively blend of presentation and small-group discussion, so come along prepared to share your experiences and interests in this area.
