IT companies need to tighten their acceptable usage policies according to consultancy firm, Morse.

Its new findings show that social networking in office hours could be costing UK firms over £1.3bn a year in lost productivity.

57 per cent of the 1,400 polled say they use social media during the working day. Although this can be good for business, employers don't seem to realise workers are using the sites for personal reasons says a Morse consultant.

Philip Wicks says companies need to stress their fair usage policy so that people are using their PCs "responsibly".

And that can only be done via a collaborative effort between business leaders and IT according to Morse.
