Businesses to increase IT budgets

Midsized businesses around the world are set to increase their IT budgets over the coming months, according to a new report.

This could lead to a number of new opportunities for IT professionals in the UK.

Research recently published by IBM has indicated that more than half of midsized businesses are looking to invest in their IT infrastructure over the next 12 to 18 months.

According to the study, the increased budgets will be used to focus on a range of priorities including cloud computing, customer relationship solutions and collaboration projects.

Miles Templeman, director-general of the Institute of Directors, commented on the research: 'This survey suggests that while operational cost reduction remains a major priority for midmarket firms, many are now looking to increase business investment in key areas such as their IT infrastructure.

'This change in mindset suggests that companies are beginning to think more about the path to growth and less about recessionary pressures.'
