My Journey is a student-centred, personalised learning platform. It provides students with access to programme-level engagement and performance data to allow peer-comparison, at a programmatic level, of their engagement and performance.

Its purpose is to provide impactful support of the student experience and promote positive, active students, engaged in their learning experience, and assist students to reflect and take responsibility for the ongoing development and review of their learning. My Journey enables informed interventions by staff and by students, moving from a structure of punitive action, to early identification and solution-focused problem solving into the barriers to engagement and learning.

A Pilot model was adopted as a step approach to launching My Journey to invite and accommodate feedback from students, academic staff and professional support staff around its functionality and usability. In so doing, individual stakeholder and collective Programme and School needs were identified. This then helped shape the customised version prior to rollout across the university.

Engagement

The engagement section shows attendance and use of the library, online resources and learning environments, bench-marked against other students.

Performance

The performance section allows review of the student’s assessment marks in the context of the whole class. It also provides time-appropriate and, where appropriate time-critical, opportunity for students to discuss progress with their personal tutor and identify ways in which to grow and develop or agree early recovery plans, when need is identified.

Careful consideration is given to privacy. Accordingly, the engagement and performance information is presented in ways that maintains security and privacy of personal data whilst providing a rich and timely opportunity for self-reflection and development that empowers students to take ownership of their own university and learning experience.
