A short introduction to the Maritime Simulation Centre, situated at Solent University, followed by a guided tour of the facility, planned to include the Full Mission Bridge simulator,  two Tug Bridge simulators, three Multi-purpose bridge simulators,  a Full Mission Engine Room simulator, High Voltage  Training room and GMDSS.

SYNOPSIS
The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) is an internationally agreed-upon set of safety procedures, types of equipment, and communication protocols used to increase safety and make it easier to rescue distressed ships, boats and aircraft. There should also be an opportunity to experience, via a simulator, the cab of a crane, used for moving containers in the docks.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
Headline Speaker: David Kemp
David Kemp is a former Royal Naval Weapons Engineering Artificer, specialising in Mine Countermeasures Ships electrical and electronics equipment. After completing 22 years, he worked for Vosper Thornycroft on the BAE/Saudi Arabia Al Yamamah Mine Hunter project for 4 years including 2 years in Saudi. In 1997, he joined Solent (SIHE) as a Simulation Technician, supporting Bridge and Engine room simulators and manned models training, before becoming Technician Instructor for the engine room simulator, supporting and teaching in the ERS and HV training. David Kemp has had experience of working on and with analogue, digital and fluidic computer systems.
