Chair

The Chair of a member group leads and unites the committee, ensures that group activities are aligned with the BCS strategy, and helps the Treasurer to secure funding for activities. They also work closely with the Treasurer in making sure the group is continuing to make IT good for society through our four strategic pillars; growing the membership of the group, inspiring others through events and activities, helping IT professionals at all levels to progress in and develop their career, and influencing society by working closely with the BCS Policy team.

Vice Chair

The Vice Chair assists the Chair in overseeing group activities, coordinating projects, and supporting SIGiST members' engagement.

Treasurer

Treasurers look after the member group’s finances – submitting budget proposals, requests for additional funding, and ensuring the group stays within their planned spending allowance.

They also help the Chair in making sure they group is using their funds to make IT good for society through our four strategic pillars; growing the membership of the group, inspiring others through events and activities, helping IT professionals at all levels to progress in and develop their career, and influencing society by working closely with the BCS Policy team.

Inclusion Officer

The Inclusion Officer makes sure that everyone can be involved in BCS activities and events, irrespective of their age, class, race, gender, ethnicity, religion, ability or any other important characteristic that might otherwise affect their experience. BCS Member Group Committees often have additional committee members such as Events Officers, Secretaries and Email Coordinators too.

Secretary

  • Gives due notice of all general meetings (AGMs and EGMs) to all group members.
  • Gives due notice of committee vacancies to all group members.
  • Arranges suitable locations for committee meetings.
  • Prepares and issues agenda for all general meetings and committee meetings.
  • Records the minutes of all general meetings and committee meetings Sends a digital copy of each set of approved minutes to the Member Groups Team on groups@bcs.uk.
  • Handles correspondence between Member Groups Team and the Member Group.
  • Maintains committee address list, via the Member Groups Team on groups@bcs.uk

Programme Secretary

The Programme Secretary for SIGiST events plays a pivotal role in coordinating and overseeing various activities. This includes managing schedules, assisting with logistics, and ensuring the smooth execution of the SIGiST conference and other events.

Deputy Programme Secretary

As the Deputy Programme Secretary for SIGiST events, you'll assist in coordinating and overseeing a range of activities. This involves supporting the Programme Secretary in managing schedules, logistics, and ensuring the successful execution of the SIGiST conference and other key events.

Marketing and Comms Secretary

As the Marketing and Communications Secretary for our specialist software testing group, you'll drive the group's outreach efforts and enhance its online presence. Your role involves managing various communication channels, crafting engaging content, and coordinating promotional activities for team announcements, events, conferences and other initiatives.

Deputy Marketing and Comms Secretary

As the Deputy Marketing and Communications Secretary, you'll work alongside the Marketing and Communications Secretary to amplify our specialist software testing group's outreach and digital footprint. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the management of communication channels, contributing to the creation of compelling content, and supporting the coordination of promotional endeavors for team announcements, events, conferences and other initiatives

Editor, The Tester

As the Editor of 'The Tester' magazine for SIGiST, you'll lead the publication's content creation and editorial direction. 

Your role involves curating insightful articles, interviews, and features that highlight industry trends, best practices, and innovation in software testing. Through meticulous editing and collaboration with contributors, you'll ensure the magazine maintains its high quality and resonates with our readership whilst  inspiring professional testers and those in the field looking to enter the field.

Sponsorship Coordinator

As the Sponsorship Coordinator for SIGiST, you'll be responsible for securing partnerships, managing sponsor relationships, and coordinating sponsorship packages for our events. Your role is crucial in ensuring the financial success of our initiatives and fostering connections within the software testing industry.

Early Careers Advocate

Early Careers Advocates represent young professionals or those in the first stages of an IT career, always helping the member group to consider how best to attract new early careers members and get them involved in BCS activities.

International Project Liaison

Facilitating connections for SIGiST through events and collaborative efforts with international groups and organisations.

Higher and Further Education Liaison Officer

As a Higher and Further Education Liaison Officer for SIGiST, you'll connect the group with educational institutions, promote software testing, and connect to or organise  workshops and career fairs.

You'll also look at helping to develop educational materials and areas such as apprenticeships and internships to align with industry needs, enhancing software testing education and industry collaboration.

  • Deputises for other officers as required.

Particularly required for helping to establish the season's programme.
