Abstract

Rockshore Limited, founded in 2006, provides event processing applications as a managed service - their flagship service is in use 24 hours a day at London Heathrow airport - the world’s busiest airport. Rockshore's entire software infrastructure has been built using open source packages, from operating systems, development and monitoring tools through to all the component parts of the application itself - there are over 20 different open source projects used. This has given Rockshore the ability to build a large application very quickly and for a fraction of the more traditional costs.

Sounds too good to be true? Well there are always some costs associated with building software so where are they? This talk will examine the pros and cons of taking this approach how these were tackled as a business and a software development team.

Speaker

Matt Green is the CTO of Rockshore Limited and an active committee member of the South Yorkshire Branch BCS.
