iFair 2012

Date: October 2012

Venue: Washington High School of Information Technology (WHSoIT), Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

BCS USA Section Education Liaison Officers (ELO’s) Quentin Hart‐Slater and Alex Chaplin hosted a BCS table at the October 2012 iFair at Washington High School of Information Technology (WHSoIT) in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Around 600 middle and high school students from Milwaukee schools came through to find out about careers in information technology.

Each student was issued a passport and had to get a sticker from each table to complete their trip to be eligible for a prize drawing. Around 200 students stopped at the BCS table to pick up information and promotional items. They found out about the opportunities and benefits of belonging to a professional organization such as the BCS during their school, college and professional careers.

A prize winning poster created by Salimah LaForce from the BCS USA Section South East Regional Group (SERG) encouraging women to consider a career in information technology caught the attention of many of the students prompting a number of questions and discussions. Other representatives at iFair included Microsoft, Harley Davidson and the University of Wisconsin.
