Student Chapters - Kicking off term 2018 -19

As you are aware, September saw the start of term ’18-19. Once again it was time to post out the BCS freebies and for Chapter committee members to don their society T-shirts and get recruiting for members at Freshers stands up and down the UK.

Without a doubt this term is going to be great. There are promising events from the University of Bedfordshire such as; a programming workshop with software developer Tomasz Koszkul of Bet365, graduate Scott Dewson from Nomura Investment Bank’s EMEA Graduate Scheme sharing his experience with the students, the 3rd Hackathon in partnership with TUI and weekly Arduino workshops, plus, even more informative guest speakers and trips.

After a successful ’17-18 term in which the Bath Chapter hosted another successful, ‘Launchpad Hackathon’, so successful that, it was highlighted by the Bath Students Union as the best activities event that year. They also created a crypto-hunt challenge allowing members to group together and use their cryptographic skills to solve puzzles that led them around campus, in the hopes to win the grand prize. This went so well, they’ll be doing again this term along with a series of beginner programmer workshops and a new hackathon focused on Agile methodologies.
