SYNOPSIS
Emerging Technologies and Innovation at IBM
Which technologies will drastically change how we live in 5 years? This talk will explore the emerging technologies that IBM are developing and see how these are being applied to real industry challenges. Ellie will showcase some of the research and development topics that the Emerging Technology team based at IBM Hursley are working on including Open Source IoT Technologies, Homomorphic Encryption and AI bias-detection techniques.

Coercive Control Resistant Design - The Key to Safer Technology
New technologies can bring immense benefits in a domestic situation, safeguarding us, easing our routines and enriching our experiences.  Unfortunately, they can also be exploited to intimidate, restrict or control another person’s behaviour - known as Coercive Control. There is no easy answer to ending technology facilitated abuse, however we all have an ethical responsibility to do what we can. Coercive Control Resistant Design is about subtle decisions that need to be made; balancing the intended and unintended consequences of our technology.

AI in Sports Performance Analysis
Discover how IBM have been using IBM Watson across the sports industry to enhance team and player performance. In this tech talk, Emma deep dives into a behind-the-scenes look at the how IBM Watson AI was used at Leatherhead FC in the 2018/19 football season. Find out how the team performed with the assistance of AI to feedback on and analyse their performances and conduct opposition scouting.

Lesley Nuttall - Lesley works in IBM Security Client Success, liaising directly with customers around Europe. She has a career with helping others at it’s core, having spent time in the technical support trenches, been parachuted onto numerous customer sites to troubleshoot critical deployment issues and built strong client relationships to be able to offer advice and guidance.  Being able to think laterally and be inventive with solutions is often key in her work, but so is the ability to communicate those ideas and negotiate at all levels. Lesley is a techie at heart and enthusiastic about new technologies - finding there is always something novel to discover, learn or experience.

Jess Evans - Jess is a Technical Consultant at IBM, working across a range of Clients. Balancing Business and Technical capabilities, Jess is able to bridge the gap between requirements and solutions; working closely with Customers to understand their true business need and strategy and then designing an efficient solution to reflect that. The key is understanding the underlying issues, not just addressing the obvious symptoms. Jess is enthusiastic about contributing to the wider Technical Architecture community and supporting junior colleagues as they grow their technical careers.

Emma Dawson - Emma is a Senior Inventor and Emerging Technology Specialist in IBM Research. Emma has over 5 years of experience in IBM, with a combination of business and technical roles in her portfolio.
