The digital transformation is driving customer requirements for agility, security and performance (i.e. DevOps), software is eating everything and service fabrics are being built to enable this. Unfortunately these service fabrics are being connected with 20+ year old technology (VPNs, MPLS etc) which is incompatible. The solution is Universal Service Fabrics which enables embedding WAN connectivity directly into apps, containers, service fabrics and VMs so that every app has its own WAN (or AppWAN).
This software only, cloud native, API orchestrated, DevOps compatible overlay removes the need for VPNs and MPLS by building-in multi-layer security by design (Zero Trust, App-Micro-segmentation, Software-Defined-Perimeter etc) as well as performance and reliability-by-design. This will allow developers to be unshackled by telcos, proprietary hardware, long lead time while delivering the app experience their consumers want compliant to security required.

Philip Griffiths is Head of EMEA Partnerships and Alliances for NetFoundry and regularly speaks at events from DevOps to IoT to Cyber Security. Prior to this, he worked for Atos IT Services in various roles working with C-suit executives to realise their digital transformation. He lives in London with his wife and daughter and enjoys travelling for both work or pleasure.
