===========================================

The Communications Management Association (CMA) is 60 years old. It will re-launch itself with a new vision and strategy with a forward-looking event at the BT Tower on 20th May 2019 commencing 16:00 pm.

As new technology emerged, it has informed its members and passed back their issues to other stakeholders including Government and Regulators. It has influenced Regulation, Industry best practice and the professionalism of those in the sector.

In reviewing how we might celebrate our 60th anniversary, we looked back at what happened since our 50th. The last 10 years have seen Smartphones, IoT, 5G, Smart everything, developments in Cloud and broadcast services all maturing as business technologies which conceivably fall into our area.

Recent industry events show that whilst, recently Telecommunications focus was on delivering Consumer bandwidth and services, that is changing.

As 5G is deployed the focus will primarily be about using its technology to deliver huge business and economic benefits in various sectors (Transport, Agriculture, Healthcare etc.) This will be based on collaboration between all stakeholders and transformation of the use and delivery of ICT.

UK Government are funding numerous initiatives, testbeds etc. and encouraging collaboration. They have launched impressive programmes to overcome boundaries which might hinder UK taking advantage of the 5G transformation opportunity.

We feel that if these business sectors are going to achieve all these huge forecast benefits they should start using and investing in the technology now rather than leave it to Operators, Vendors and Government. That investment could be people, resources or access, not just capital.

With our focus on Business Users, CMA aims to stimulate this through our membership and the wider BCS channels. (70,000+ Industry professionals).

We think timing is good for this 60th anniversary re-launch and invite you to hear these key stakeholders discuss the next 10 years.

• Margot James, Minister DCMS – (invited)
• Russell Haworth, CEO Nominet
• Jeremy Silver, CEO Digital Catapult
• Dr Mike Short CBE, Chief Scientific Advisor DIT
