AI is once again back in fashion after decades of neglect. The AI bandwagon promises much but has yet to deliver. Should we believe the hype? And, more importantly, can we trust the technology? David Lacey, a leading cybersecurity expert and an early pioneer of AI for audit log analysis and fraud detection, will explain the intrinsic flaws and risks associated with AI, and will initiate a discussion of the consequences and potential liabilities presented by this technology.

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHY

David Lacey is a leading researcher, writer and innovator in Cyber Security and IT Governance, with more than 25 years’ experience leading IT Security and Governance functions for organizations such as Shell, Royal Mail and the British Foreign & Commonwealth Office.

David has pioneered many new ideas in cyber security. Amongst other things he drafted the original text behind the ISO 27000 family of standards, achieved the world’s first and largest accredited certifications, and founded the Jericho Forum.

More significantly, David was an early pioneer and user of AI for cyber security an fraud detection, conceiving and developing the first use of AI for automated audit log analysis in the 1980s, as well as sponsoring the development of the world’s first and only fraud detection system based on a model of the human immune system at the turn of the century.

These days David prefers to focus on more precise, low entropy solutions, based on unfashionable techniques and science, such as relational database, set theory and mereology. His latest invention is a 4-dimensionalist, metaphysical database that he believes will revolutionize the cyber security industry
