Description:

With a visit to the IBM Makerspace situated beneath the offices of IBM next to the historic Hursley house we're going to discuss the potential future and current marvels of 3D printing and its applications - from electronic cases to optical illusions to replica movie props you're going to get to experience 3D printing hands on with the assistance of the powerful Taz 6 and its portable counterpart, the Lulzbot Mini 2, using our fully recyclable plant based plastic.

Outside the makerspace we will also display the multicolour Prusa i3 MK-II and its magnetic bed in the aboveground emerging technologies lab.

Going beyond our plastic printers there'll be a light introduction to the concepts behind metal, bone and organ printing. Be it a fully articulated miniature animal, a topological map of mars or something entirely different, there's a chance of taking home a 3D printed item of your very own.

Jonah Luckett is a first class honours student at Keele University currently on a placement year with IBM - achieving 100% in the 3D modelling and design module, among others. With well over 100 hours of 3D printing time he has run demonstrations for guests from primary school classes to business partners with both the makerspace and the Internet of Things labs whilst spending his primary day job working with the Watson Internet of Things team. Alongside this he is one of the lead makerspace guardians running training induction sessions and organising events to try and bring out the creative side in all its users.
