SYNOPSIS
This 60 minute talk will explore the technology available to assist individual's living with a disability be able to participate in today's digital society.   Some people are born with a disability, for others a disability develops over time, but for some people a disability arises from an unexpected life-changing event. The talk will explore how technology can provide practical assistance to individuals living with:
• Cognitive impairment
• Impaired physical coordination
• Visual impairment
• Impaired hearing
Whilst some of the technology covered is leading edge, some of it is very much "old-school".

SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES
Speaker: David Power
David is a county coordinator for AbilityNet's IT at Home service covering East, North and West Yorkshire, and has been a volunteer with the service since 2012.  When he started this volunteering role, the service was delivered as part of the BCS's Disability Computing Special Interest Group.   In additional to volunteering with AbilityNet, David also coordinates a similar service operated by RNIB across North and East Yorkshire. AbilityNet provides a range of support to help disabled people get the most from their home computers, tablets and smartphones.
