  • Webinar: “Genetic Programming – A New Approach” - Data Management SG

In this webinar, the genetic programming (GP) algorithm will be introduced; the introduction will aim to enable an intuitive understanding of GP. Next, the challenge of managing the complexity of GP solutions will be discussed. Thereafter, a new research direction for addressing this challenge will be presented.

SYNOPSIS
Genetic programming is a versatile algorithm that is inspired by the principles of natural evolution. The approach of “evolving” programs is thought to have originated from Alan Turing in the 1950’s and is now relevant for machine learning, automatic programming, design, and as a general problem-solving instrument. Using this algorithm is not without challenges.

The dimension of the data used in training the GP models greatly impacts the execution time of GP. As GP is computer resource-intensive, even a moderately sized dataset can take an excessively long time to execute. A way of addressing this challenge is to suppress unnecessary growth in the complexity of the models that are being produced.

In this webinar, the genetic programming (GP) algorithm will be introduced; the introduction will aim to enable an intuitive understanding of GP. Next, the challenge of managing the complexity of GP solutions will be discussed. Thereafter, a new research direction for addressing this challenge will be presented.

This event is part of a series of webinars being organised by the Data Management Specialist Group, presenting recent academic research into computing applications that utilise managed data. This presentation will be of particular interest to those following developments in: artificial Intelligence, programming technique and the various uses of managed data.
