Synopsis

This year, BCS NI are delighted to welcome Gillian Arnold FBCS, President of BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, to speak at the BCS NI AGM & Guest Lecture.

BCS NI will also be presenting their IT Educator of the Year awards. These awards, now in their fourth year, recognise and celebrate those educators who innovate, challenge and embrace technology to encourage and support young people, driving computing and digital education in schools.

The BCS NI Annual General Meeting, which MBC members are welcome to attend, will take place before the guest lecture. Light refreshments will be provided.

About the speaker

Gillian ArnoldGillian Arnold FBCS

Gillian has extensive experience in the IT industry, including running her own IT Training and Diversity Recruitment company to help women find technology roles.

Gillian previously worked in a variety of roles in IBM and has supported public and private sector organisations working to increase diversity. She has been awarded the Cisco/Everywoman in Technology Award and Inclusion Inspiration of the Year Award, as well as an honorary doctorate from the University of Bath.

Gillian is a member of the Computer Weekly Hall of Fame. As BCS President, Gillian is particularly focussed on “building public trust in tech through ethics and standards, and frameworks of professionalism”, an area which has come sharply into focus due to new challenges such as the increasing use of artificial intelligence and the commoditisation of personal data.
