Synopsis
Following on from the webinar in 2020, we will revisit the findings and recommendations made by the presenter (https://www.bcs.org/events-calendar/2020/july/webinar-are-we wasting-money-on-cyber-control).
The talk will take stock of the changes in vulnerability, threat and the resulting business risks as well as developments in mitigation and best practice. In proposing how the position has changed, we will reflect on the opportunities achieved, and missed. This will start by considering the original lessons from the previous presentation as a starting position.
Taking the audience through a compare and contrast review, whilst engaging them through live structured input as the talk progresses, the presenter (and audience) will once again try to do the impossible and predict the unpredictable.
At completion of the session attendees will be able to assess the value of controls for themselves alongside hearing the presenters recommendations for the next five years.
About the speaker
Andy E spent 28 years in Health and Care before recently retiring from the NHS and full time work. Despite this change of pace he still advises companies on their Cyber strategies and recently wrote the “Human Factors and Culture” cyber risk reduction strategy for an organisation spanning the East and West Midlands. He was the first Chief Cyber Security Officer of an Integrated Care System in England. Directing, co-ordinating and overseeing cyber strategy delivery and governance for multiple organisations across county size populations, starting in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire NHS Integrated Care System.
Leading cyber for the brand new partnership of Hospitals, Mental Health, Community, Primary Care and Local Authorities. He created, developed and led the development of the Cyber Security Strategy and implemented the governance arrangements for delivery. After this successful stint in Nottinghamshire, he moved on to the “Second Capital”, taking on a bigger challenge at Birmingham and Solihull Integrated Care System. Leading the NHS and Local Authority strategic direction and delivery across this population of approximately two million, as well as a number of specialist Hospitals providing services nationally. During his six years in these roles, he created nationally recognised, successful Cyber Strategies for both areas whilst playing a leading role in the wider cyber sphere of both East and West Midlands and beyond.
His work as the Chairman of a Local Resilience Forum gave him opportunity to be involved in the Commonwealth Games cyber preparations. The Local Resilience work involved forming, leading and guiding the Cyber Security working groups and engaging with the “REDCyber” programme led by the Government and NCSC. This work further expanded his experience, knowledge and networks. Andy has global reach in his professional network, often consulting, learning and advising through this extended trusted circle of internationally recognised experts. This has enabled him gain wider knowledge and experience, attending US Senate hearings on health matters and through his research work with crime prevention and detection agencies both in the UK and USA. His pre-cyber years, were spent working in a variety of IT/Digital/Information and Transformation roles across all types of Health and Social Care providers and in a plethora of roles. This has given him a detailed insight into the needs and workings of the NHS, public sector and beyond.
He is regularly invited to speak at national, regional and local events. He has been applauded for his presentation style and engaging content. Speaking for companies such as AWS, Microsoft and Gartner as well as the British Computer Society, he has covered a wide range of thought provoking topics. A double MSc and a Fellow of the British Computer Society, he has never stopped his learning and drive for personal improvement.
A SABSA Security Professional and advisor to internation cyber accreditation bodies, he is a supporter of the need for professional recognition of the IT professional, with particular emphasis on the need for Cyber to be taken seriously at all levels of business and society.“Cyber is a team game” being his constant message. He has a passion to develop others, demonstrated through his ongoing Professionally Accredited Coaching and Mentorship work.
