The Lead Data Engineer is responsible for the design, build and integrity of the BCS data platform, ensuring the organisation has a trusted and secure foundation for reporting, analytics and insight. The role will own the Data Warehouse implementation, ensuring that data sources are integrated consistently and that data is accessible to colleagues in a compliant and secure manner. The Lead Data Engineer will lead the BI team, driving data-enabled decision making across BCS and ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
Role responsibilities:
- Own the Data Warehouse architecture and implementation, ensuring high standards of availability, security and scalability.
- Ensure data pipelines are in place to ingest, transform and consolidate data from multiple systems (including Salesforce, Netsuite, digital platforms and membership systems).
- Maintain the integrity, accuracy and completeness of data, applying robust validation and quality assurance practices.
- Work closely with BI Developers and analysts to deliver timely, accurate and meaningful reports and dashboards.
- Ensure data access is secure, controlled and compliant with GDPR, data protection and information security standards.
- Lead the BI team, providing technical direction, mentoring and coaching.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate reporting needs into technical solutions.
- Implement metadata management and data lineage capabilities to support transparency and auditability.
- Establish and maintain data governance practices in collaboration with the Information Security Manager and other key stakeholders.
- Act as the technical authority for data engineering, setting standards for coding, testing and deployment of data solutions.
- Evaluate and adopt new technologies, tools and methods to improve data capabilities.
- Provide expert input into strategic programs requiring integrated data and analytics.
- Support, coach, mentor and manage your team to ensure fair, consistent approach of workloads and development to produce a highly effective team.

Who are we looking for?
- Degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline (or equivalent experience).
- Professional membership of BCS – MBCS.
- Relevant certifications (e.g. Microsoft Data Engineer, AWS Data analytics, Snowflake or equivalent) desirable.
- Proven experience leading data engineering or BI teams in a complex organisation.
- Hands-on experience designing and implementing enterprise data warehouses.
- Strong track record of building secure, reliable data pipelines across multiple source systems.
- Experience of leading data governance, quality and security practices.
- Demonstrable experience working with senior stakeholders to shape data strategies and deliver insight.
- Excellent leadership skills, able to inspire and guide a technical team.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, able to work with both technical and nontechnical colleagues.
- Analytical thinker with high attention to detail.
- Well organised and able to manage multiple concurrent initiatives.
- Problem solver, able to balance long-term architecture with pragmatic delivery.
- Strong knowledge of data warehouse design patterns and methodologies (Kimball, Data Vault or equivalent).
- In-depth knowledge of SQL, ETL/ELT pipelines and modern data engineering tools.
- Good understanding of BI and reporting platforms such as Microsoft Power BI.
- Familiarity with data security, GDPR, and compliance frameworks.
- Cloud-based data platforms and services (Azure, AWS, or GCP).
- Knowledge of data governance, metadata and lineage practices.
