SYNOPSIS
We all encounter 'difficult' characters from time to time.

Modern workplaces can be high-pressured, sometimes fraught environments, which don’t always bring out the best in people…especially so in IS projects! Being on the receiving end of unreasonable behaviour – especially from a senior stakeholder – often leaves us feeling as if our only option is to say nothing (or run away!). But what’s the result of this “do nothing” approach? We might have avoided a confrontation, but our stress levels will still have gone through the roof, leaving us in a whirl of negative emotion, complaining to colleagues and unable to focus on our work.

The good news is that there is an alternative. There are techniques we can learn which will equip us with the skills and confidence to deal successfully with difficult people, whatever their position in the organisation. In this talk, we will examine the root causes of other people’s ‘difficult’ behaviour, and how to respond confidently and effectively, to achieve successful outcomes.
