Synopsis

This session explores why spending time in a PMO can broaden your perspective, strengthen your delivery judgement and open up new career options across project, programme, portfolio, transformation and leadership roles.

For many project and programme professionals, the PMO is seen as a function they work with rather than somewhere they might choose to work. This session explores why spending part of a career in a PMO can be a valuable move - not necessarily a permanent one.

Drawing on the Inside PMO Report 2026: Specialist Roles in the PMO, the talk will examine the range of generalist and specialist roles available, from coordination and delivery support through to data and insight, governance and assurance, portfolio management, benefits and digital capability.

It will also consider the different routes into and out of PMO, and how time spent there can build a broader understanding of organisational delivery, strengthen commercial and strategic awareness, and provide greater exposure to senior decision-making.

Attendees will leave with a clearer view of PMO experience as a practical way to broaden capability, deepen expertise and open up future career options across projects, programmes, portfolios, transformation and leadership.
