SYNOPSIS
Only 14% of respondents to a Grant Thornton survey in May 2018 stated that company acquisition deals exceeded their initial expectations for income or rate of return. This is amongst the disappointing statistics on the value-add of mergers and acquisitions, some stating the failure rate as high as 70% (KPMG 2011, PWC 2013) to 90% (Harvard Business Review 2016). With M&A being constantly in the news, this is not the sure-fire way of adding the value you are led to expect.

Why is this? With post-acquisition integration projects, you are grappling with many challenges. They type of business being acquired can range from an innovative, ground-breaking service at one end of the scale, through to assimilating a company with similar products and services at the other. Both have their hurdles and not just technological ones. Client, cultural, people, process, geography and data aspects all demand that the mindset to post-sale activities needs to be a holistic one, with IT leadership expected to drive the change initiatives.

As Computerbright celebrates its thirtieth year in the business and technology integration space, Henry McNeill will provide insights on how to tilt the scales in your favour and help move you into the upper quartile of success.

SPEAKER BIO
Henry has held board-level and senior execution roles during post-acquisition initiatives. Focused on technology and data driven businesses, Henry provides advisory and M&A services to companies embarking on their first or fiftieth acquisition. He has developed a range of tools and techniques to ensure value is captured and increased post-sale. This has resulted in a passion for running workshops, bringing business and technology people together during the early stages of post-acquisition integration to formulate the optimum target operating model.

Assignments have included application and process rationalisation in an estate of 50 acquired companies; the creation of a new target operating model for a central IT team with a focus on acquiring businesses; business integration of 5 previously acquired client service teams to formulate a new business unit; and the integration of 6 FinTechs prior to their disposal.
