SYNOPSIS
Picture the scene – in the living room of the house, a body lies on the floor, a knife protruding from the chest. An older, technologically illiterate Detective Inspector spies a laptop on the coffee table and calls over his younger Detective Sergeant. ‘Take a look at that will you?’ The Sergeant opens the laptop, guesses the password on the second attempt ( it’s the name of the dog ), browses through the victim's diary and discovers the meeting with the murderer arranged just before the time of death as confirmed by the Pathologist. They rush to the car, blues and twos on and head off to arrest the suspect before they can flee the country.
This is absolutely not what Digital Forensics is like, however, in my humble opinion, it’s a lot better – albeit a lot slower! Simon Biles is an experienced Digital Forensics Expert Witness. He has given evidence in a wide range of criminal and civil cases in the United Kingdom – including terrorism, indecent images, fraud, murder and blackmail.
