Sam Vickerman and Amy Gornall from Doris will open the event by defining the digital skills gap and share their experiences of how to bridge the gaps to future proof your company and the industry by focusing on the similarities between working generations and teaching you how to embrace the differences.

Angela Davies (Head of Learning & Development) and Lucy Kidson (Apprenticeship Programme Manager) from AJ Bell will then share their journey and the challenges they face in attracting and retaining top Tech talent in Manchester. They will share their thoughts on what they are doing to win the battle, with a focus on the impact of digital apprentices.

Sam and Amy have worked together at Doris for 3 years sharing knowledge and learning from each other every day! Sam has worked in the IT industry for over 25 years starting out as an analyst on the IT Service Desk before moving into IT Planning and Performance Management. Since then she has worked as an IT Manager in Operational, Transformation and Change roles, within both the Financial Services and Retail Sectors, with an excellent breadth of experience and knowledge, she has overseen large Global transformation projects. After being a customer of Doris's whilst at Shop Direct, Sam is now the Client Director of Doris, managing large accounts, business development activities and ensuring customer satisfaction. Amy joined Doris in July 2015 after graduating from the University of Birmingham to support the Business’ Development, PR and Marketing. Managing and developing Doris's communication and strategy, website, events, and social media campaigns by shadowing the Doris senior team members and taking on more responsibility each year. Amy has been instrumental in developing Doris's strong digital presence.

Angela Davies is Head of Learning & Development at AJ Bell plc. Angela has been with AJ Bell as their Head of Learning and Development since September 2017. She has Masters level qualifications in HR, L&D and Management and has combined these skills with over 20 years of experience in management and learning and development to create the apprenticeship strategy for AJ Bell. Her employment experience has been in both financial services and the science and engineering sector.

Lucy Kidson is AJ Bell’s Apprenticeship Programme Manager. Lucy joined AJ Bell in 2017 to lead and develop their apprenticeship programmes having spent the previous 13 years with a global accountancy firm. Lucy works with schools and colleges in the north west to promote AJ Bell’s apprenticeship opportunities, including digital degree apprenticeships in AJ Bell’s technology services area.
