The Annual General Meeting (AGM)

You can hear about what the BCS Dorset Branch has been doing since last year's AGM. It's also an excellent opportunity to help shape the direction of the branch for the coming year. There will be elections for the branch committee and an opportunity for questions and discussion. Note as with the rest of the evening it is open to both BCS members and non-members. As always this event is free of charge.

In our usual format, the evening will include a buffet and will end with a talk.

Professional Registration and Chartership pathways for the IT profession

The UK IT industry has unquestionably grown in magnitude and effect. In 2018 alone the venture capital investment in UK technology exceeded £6bn and today the UK employs 5% of all high growth tech workers globally (Source: Tech Nation). The pervasive nature of the IT industry inevitably leads to important discussion points around ethical principles, duty of care, responsibility and recognition of experience levels. The consequences of IT span numerous areas including health, medicine, privacy, cyber security, wellbeing of others, as well as the environment.

This talk will map out the landscape available for professional registration and chartership, from the three perspectives of early-career professionals, employers and experienced practitioners. Richard will explore how PR and chartership can be achieved in a cost-effective way offering benefits, both for employers and practitioners, improving employee retention and professional development, using cyber security as an example.
