Synopsis

Innovation with data-driven technology is changing the way that organisations make decisions. This offers some real opportunities but also creates challenges. This talk will explore how organisations, regulators and others can work together to ensure that this technology is used fairly and safely.

About the speaker

Mark Durkee works for the Centre for Data Ethics & Innovation, a UK government body responsible for helping policy-makers and delivery teams address the risks and enable the opportunities from data-driven technology. He leads a portfolio of work, including CDEI’s Review into Bias in Algorithmic Decision-Making, published last year. Before joining CDEI in 2019, he worked in a variety of technology strategy, architecture and cyber security roles in the UK government as a software engineer and completed a PhD in theoretical physics.
