Synopsis
AI agents are becoming data consumers. Like people, they need to find the right data, understand what it means and know whether they can trust it. Unlike people, they don't ask when they're unsure. They just give a confident wrong answer. In this online talk, I show how data contracts written in the Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS) serve both audiences. You write the contract in the open-source Data Contract Editor, defining schema, business meaning, quality and terms of use once. The open-source Data Contract CLI then tests the data against that contract automatically. The talk covers two ways agents use data. To answer business questions, agents find data products in a data marketplace, understand them through a semantic layer, and query them over MCP. Each query is checked against the contract's terms of use. To build new datasets, coding agents start from the contract and build the pipeline to match it, and the Data Contract CLI checks the result in CI. Both use cases are shown in a live demo.
About the speaker
Dr. Simon Harrer is co-founder and CEO of Entropy Data, a company building a data product marketplace for humans and agents on top of data contracts and a semantic layer. He brings his deep experience in software engineering to the world of data, advocating for robust, contract-first approaches. Simon is also a member of the technical steering committee for the Open Data Contract Standard (ODCS) and the Open Data Product Standard (ODPS) at the Linux Foundation.
