The time has come for regulators to adapt, evolve and embrace technology in how they regulate the financial market and institutions. Are regulators ready for this change?
About the speaker
Chryssi Chorafa
Chryssi is a highly motivated professional with a unique experience in financial services specialising in FinTech. Chryssi’s passion is to help design and build a financially inclusive, resilient and sustainable system for the benefit of society. She covers a breadth of professional experience ranging from regulation (FCA), risk management, global transactions payments, and treasury. Chryssi has consulted and implemented many treasury and risk analytics system projects for blue-chip companies across EMEA.
Chryssi is a thought leader in the payments industry, the Founder and CEO of StarLiX, an innovative payment and compliance system to enable cross-border payments to developing countries by linking the compliance and payment information along the chain. StarLiX was shortlisted for the FSTech RegTech/Compliance Award 2021, a LendIt PitchIt Semifinalist 2021 and a finalist in the FF Awards 2021.
Chryssi is also a part-time COO of Kalgera, a social FinTech early-stage company (top 30 in the UK TechRound 2020) focusing on financial resilience and vulnerability, and lectures at thwe London Institute of Banking and Finance specialising in Digital Technologies and FinTech.
Chryssi has been recognised as a Senior Leader in the Women in FinTech Powerlist 2020, and as a Rising Star in the Women in FinTech Powerlist 2021. Last year, she won the Women in Payments EMEA Symposium Innovation Award 2021.
Over the past year, Chryssi has participated as a Subject-Matter-Expert, participant and mentor at the UK FCA’s first Data Sprint 2020, Digital Sandbox 2020, Women’s Economic Empowerment Tech Sprint 2021, FCA Digital Sustainability Sandbox 2021 and FCA Sustainability Policy Sprint 2022.
She holds a first-class honours BEng in Civil Engineering, and two MSc in Financial Mathematics from the University of Warwick and Technology Entrepreneurship from UCL. She values personal development and life-long learning, and therefore, has undertaken numerous qualifications in Investment Advice (FCA), Risk Management (PRMIA), Data Science and ML (Mindstream AI), Blockchain (UCL CBT), Innovation (MIT).
Chryssi is an Industry Associate at UCL Centre of Blockchain Technologies and volunteers as a mentor for a non-profit (Madrinha Trust). She used to be a Governor at a North London school (Governors for Schools).
