Synopsis

Mike Elsmore — What’s in your toolbox to develop products during the AI revolution

AI is rapidly changing how we build products — from copilots speeding up development to fully AI-generated solutions. But with this shift comes the risk of “AI-slop” if we’re not thoughtful. Mike will walk us through how to harness AI effectively and what essential tools should be in every modern developer’s kit to build reliable, scalable, user-ready products.

Robin Oldham — The Real Story of Digital Degree Apprenticeships

Why are so many apprenticeship adverts full of hi-vis PPE? Digital Degree Apprenticeships are redefining career pathways into computing, covering everything from cybersecurity to data science, all while earning a degree and a salary. Robin, Course Director at the University of Staffordshire, will demystify how these apprenticeships work and the real-world impact they're already having (with almost zero hi-vis gear involved!).

Fiona Knight - Use the platform – what you can do without libraries or frameworks on the web today.

Developers are so quick these days to turn to frameworks and libraries to develop applications, that they have forgotten the power of the browser, and what you can do with vanilla HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Fiona, a senior lecturer from the University of Staffordshire will show you some of the cool things you can do today with a browser and a text editor, and also point out the key places you can find out more.

Daniel Tallentire — Generalist -adaptable intelligence

Here's what I've learned after 15+ years in tech: the person who makes the biggest difference is often not the deepest expert. It is the person who can jump into a new API or codebase and make sense of it quickly, explain technical decisions in plain English, and spot the connections between problems that appear to be unrelated. Tech changes every 18 months... your ability to learn and adapt matters more than what you already know.
