Celebrating the BCSWomen Lovelace: Conversations with Students, Academics, and Industry Changemakers.

This series will introduce participants to the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium, exploring its mission and goals. Attendees will also hear from our sponsors and student competition winners, who will share their personal journeys and experiences beyond the Lovelace Colloquium.

In the first of our BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium seminar series we turn the spotlight on Glasgow, the 2025 event hosts.

About the speakers

 

Safia Barikzai - Dr Safia Barikzai is Associate Professor and Deputy Head of School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies at London South Bank University. Safia has been championing inclusive and equitable Computing initiatives for over a decade. She is the current chair of the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium and has supported Lovelace for the past 10 years.

Sharon Moore – Keynote Speaker, IBM Technology’s CTO for Public Sector in the UK Sharon's mission is transforming public service with technology; her purpose is to make a difference, for the better. She helps Government do better for citizens, she drives change for good in the tech industry, and she currently does this as IBM Technology’s Global CTO for Government.

Sharon has over 20 years of experience working in outsourcing, consulting, and sales, across multiple sectors and diverse technologies, across an ecosystem of partners, and as a non-executive director. She is a catalyst for change in inclusion through BCSWomen, formerly through Scotland Women in Technology, and other organisations, and is a published coauthor on the subject.

She was awarded MBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours in June 2018.

Matthew Barr - Dr Matthew Barr serves as Head of Education & Practice at the University of Glasgow's School of Computing Science and leads the Graduate Apprenticeship in Software Engineering programme. As director of the Ada Scotland Festival, Matt works to advance gender balance in Computing Science education throughout Scotland.

Matt hosted the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium as local chair in Glasgow 2025, celebrating the event's milestone 18th year.
