Synopsis

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how we diagnose, monitor, and support patient care — but the real impact lies in how these tools are applied in practice. Tech Meets Health – AI, Data & the Future of Patient Care brings together clinicians, researchers, technologists, and curious minds to explore two complementary strands of AI in healthcare.

Dr Andrew Keen (Clinical Director of Innovation, NHS Grampian) will examine how AI‑driven tools are supporting diagnostics in real clinical environments. Professor Nirmalie Wiratunga (Professor in Intelligent Systems and Associate Dean for Research at RGU's School of Computing) will then explore how memory‑based learning and responsible AI can enhance clinical decision support, illustrated through examples ranging from musculoskeletal self‑management to cardiovascular risk monitoring and explainable radiography.

With focused talks, hands‑on micro‑demonstrations, and space for conversation, this event offers practical insight into how AI is being used today — and how it can responsibly support clinicians and patients in the future.

What to Expect

The evening features two focused talks, each followed by a short micro‑station demonstration at the front of the room. These demos offer a close‑up look at AI‑assisted diagnostics and reasoning‑based clinical decision support, giving attendees a practical sense of how these tools work. You’ll also have time for networking, speaker conversations, and open Q&A.

Why Attend

This event is for anyone interested in how AI is being applied in real clinical contexts — from diagnostic support to reasoning‑driven decision tools. You’ll hear from two experts working at the intersection of healthcare and AI, each bringing practical examples from active research and deployment.

You’ll also have the chance to connect with clinicians, technologists, students, and researchers from across the North‑East, and to be part of the growing community that BCS Aberdeen is building around responsible, human‑centred innovation. If you want grounded insight, real case studies, and meaningful discussion about the future of AI in healthcare, this is the room to be in.

Our events are for adults aged 16 years and over.
