Synopsis
This joint BCS-ISACA hybrid session brings together professionals from across IT, cyber security, governance and resilience to explore how the profession can prepare for, respond to, and lead responses to the significant changes emerging across the regulatory and organisational landscape.
Why This Matters
The UK Government’s https://researchbriefings.files.parliament.uk/documents/CBP-10442/CBP-10442.pdf, now progressing through Parliament, proposes a series of measures to strengthen the resilience of digital systems supporting essential activities. Although primarily focused on critical services, its principles are likely to shape expectations for organisations across the wider economy as digital dependency deepens.
In parallel, updates to the FRC’s UK Corporate Governance Code and the introduction of the UK Government’s Cyber Governance Code of Practice aim to ensure cyber risk becomes a board‑level priority, with clearer accountability for governing cyber resilience.
This broadening of expectations and responsibilities means boards will require a more complete understanding of the resilience of their digital systems. IT and security professionals will therefore have an increasingly important role to play – identifying weaknesses, supporting informed decisions, and contributing to the maintenance of business continuity.
To support this shift, the event will facilitate discussions around:
- What non‑CNI organisations can learn from the Bill’s direction of travel.
- How to balance cyber security with wider business resilience objectives.
- Whether the Bill will encourage a deeper consideration of customer effects and company liability.
- The current landscape of governance frameworks, standards, guidance, and regulation – and where gaps remain.
- The role of IT, security, risk, business continuity, audit, and assurance professionals in building resilience and trust.
- Whether existing skills are sufficient to achieve operational resilience.
- What information IT and security teams need to provide to support effective oversight.
