Synopsis
This series will introduce participants to the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium, exploring its mission and goals. Attendees will also hear from our sponsors and student competition winners, who will share their personal journeys and experiences beyond the Lovelace Colloquium.
This BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium seminar series we turn the spotlight on our local host, Jo Hyde from the University of Bath. We also talk to one of Jo’s students, Elizabeth Rigby, who’s attended several events as a student poster presenter.
Speaker Biographies
Dr Safia Barikzai
Safia Barikzai is Associate Professor and Deputy Head of School of Computer Science and Digital Technologies at London South Bank University. Safia has been championing inclusive and equitable Computing initiatives for over a decade. She is the current chair of the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium and has supported Lovelace for the past 10 years.
Dr Jo Hyde
Jo Hyde is Senior Lecturer (Associate Professor) and Director of Studies for Final Year UGs at the Department of Computer Science at the University of Bath. As a woman in STEM for over thirty years Jo is dedicated to improving both the numbers and the positive experiences of female computer science students. She has attended the Lovelace Colloquium for the past two years and is extremely excited that Bath is hosting it this year. Elizabeth Rigby - Elizabeth is a final-year Computer Science student at the University of Bath who has attended the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium for the past three years. The event has enabled her to network with inspiring women in tech, build confidence and has given her the opportunity to present areas of computing she is interested in. She will be sharing what she has gained from the event and why she would encourage other students to get involved.
