Speaker biography

James Griffithsis an independent cyber security consultant with over 25 years of experience across information technology, cyber security, and operational technology. He founded UtopianKnight Consultancy to deliver senior-level expertise directly to organisations that need it, without the layers and overhead of a large consultancy. What you get is direct access to an experienced practitioner who has built, led, and secured complex environments at scale.

With a career spanning three distinct chapters, he spent 17 years serving in the British Army's Royal Corps of Signals, culminating as a Foreman of Signals Information Systems. This background instilled a disciplined, methodical approach to high-stakes technical environments that informs everything he does. On leaving the military, James co-founded Cyber Security Associates (CSA Cyber) in 2013, growing it from two founders to an organisation of nearly 100 people. As Technical Director and CTO he was responsible for the full technology strategy, infrastructure, automation, and AI roadmap. Under James’s leadership, CSA achieved CREST accreditation for its Security Operations Centre and joined the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association (MISA).

Today, through UtopianKnight Consultancy, James works with organisations across the defence supply chain, critical national infrastructure, and commercial sectors. His engagements typically fall into one of four areas: virtual CISO and virtual CTO services for organisations requiring fractional executive-level security and technology leadership; Operational Technology and Industrial Control Systems security for industrial and manufacturing environments; governance, risk and compliance programmes including ISO/IEC 27001, Cyber Essentials, and Defence Cyber Certification; and AI and automation strategy, helping organisations integrate emerging technologies in a secure and governed way.

Our events are for adults aged 16 years and over.
