Synopsis

Traditional ROI models often capture the visible benefits of AI while overlooking the value created by trust, accountability, resilience and responsible data stewardship. Drawing on practical experience in developing and operationalising AI and data governance within a global organisation, this talk will explore why ethical governance should not be treated merely as a compliance requirement, but as a strategic capability and an enabler of sustainable innovation.

The session will examine how organisations can move from principles to practice by embedding clear responsibilities, risk-based assessment, human oversight, data governance and lifecycle controls into AI adoption. It will also consider the emerging challenges of Generative and Agentic AI, where increasingly autonomous systems require organisations to rethink accountability and traditional measures of value. The central message is simple: responsible AI governance does not slow innovation. When designed effectively, it creates the conditions for AI to be trusted, scaled and sustained over time.

About the speakers

Fabrizio Degni is a distinguished AI Ethics and Governance researcher, technology evangelist, and President of the Italy Chapter for the Global Council for Responsible AI. Guided by his philosophy "Ask not if it can be done, nor how, but only if it should be done," he is deeply committed to exploring technological frontiers while ensuring AI serves humanity's common benefit through ethical, transparent, and accountable innovation.

Recent Recognition & Leadership: Degni was honored with the "Premio per l'Impegno Etico nella Cultura Algoritmica" (Award for Ethical Commitment in Algorithmic Culture) at the inaugural AI Awards Italy 2025, hosted by ENTE NAZIONALE per l'INTELLIGENZA ARTIFICIALE - E.N.I.A.® in Milano. This prestigious recognition celebrates his commitment to education and critical reflection on algorithms, ethics, and AI governance. As President of the Italy Chapter for the Global Council for Responsible AI, he leads a growing community of 500+ members across 71 nations dedicated to shaping responsible AI through ethics, transparency, and accountability principles. Professional Expertise: As Chief of Artificial Intelligence, Degni's research focuses on sociotechnical risks introduced by emerging AI technologies, particularly AI agents and autonomous systems. His analysis of AI agent systems in IBM's 2025 AI Ethics Report highlighted critical challenges of opacity, complexity, and non-reversibility in autonomous systems, contributing to frameworks for evolved governance models and ethical oversight. Degni is the author of the book “Tecnologia senza paura” and the founder of the online policy watcher portal PolicyWatcher.online also. Certifications & Credentials: Degni holds the Chief AI Officer certification from World X University (scored 100 / 100), AI CERTs™: AI+ Executive Certification and specialized certifications from Stanford University ("AI Awakening: Economic and Society Implications"), edX ("AI Ethics for Professionals"), Copenhagen Business School, Microsoft, and Politecnico di Milano. His advanced credentials include ISO 42001:2023 AI System Management / ISO 9001 certifications and designation as a Certified AI Ethics & Governance Professional (CAEGP).

Selected Projects and Frameworks:

• P.A.L.O. Framework - Principled AI Lifecycle Orchestration An AI governance framework designed to translate ethical principles, regulatory requirements, and international standards into operational controls across the full AI lifecycle. It includes lifecycle governance phases, principles, KPIs and KRIs, accountability mechanisms, decision gates, and dedicated components for the governance of agentic AI systems.
• PALO-AM / Agentic AI Governance Extensions - An extension of PALO focused on Agentic AI governance, including agent identity, autonomy, authority boundaries, action spaces, human accountability, traceability, evidence management, and auditability.
• PolicyWatcher - An open-source civic-tech platform designed to monitor, archive, compare, and analyse changes in privacy policies, Terms of Service, AI governance clauses, and data-use conditions across major technology and fintech platforms.
• Dynamic Digital Privacy Framework - A privacy governance framework proposing a transition from static consent toward adaptive and continuous privacy management, including privacy-as-code principles and integration into digital development lifecycles.
• AI Governance for Industry 5.0 Framework - A governance model addressing the transition from Industry 4.0 to Industry 5.0 through AI ethics, human-AI collaboration, cybersecurity, sustainability, organisational governance, and systems thinking.
• LLM Router - An experimental platform for the routing, orchestration, and management of Large Language Models.
