This group aims to promote collaboration between IT and digital professionals within UK Defence IT, industry partners, academia, and international allies to share developments, exchange best practice and foster professionalism.
About us
Leveraging technology is key to meeting Defence’s aim of protecting the United Kingdom, its people, and its interests both at home and abroad. It has vast array of expertise and talent within its workforce and the BCS Defence IT specialist group focus' on Defence’s current and former serving Regular, Reserve, Civil Servants, Contractors and wider defence community supporting their Professional Development, enabling Networking, fostering Innovation and Supporting Careers across the Armed Forces IT practitioner community.
Objectives
The group aims to support the Defence IT community throughout their career with the aim of providing informative, up-to-date information and advice from a broad and diverse membership both from within Defence and also from industry and academia.
Alongside facilitating regular events it also looks to support individuals through signposting career development resources and best practice, advocating and influencing wider organisations on the value of Defence IT personnel, and promoting streamlined routes to recognition and reward.
The group also aims to motivate, inspire and enthuse members with the distribution of the latest developments across Defence fostering collaboration and efficiency of effort through convening all aspects of Defence and utilising wider BCS member expertise from its specialist group community.
The focus of the group includes (but is not be limited to):
- Development of career paths
- Structured Professional development opportunities
- Promoting diversity and inclusivity across the community
- Development of best practice and knowledge sharing
- Giving back to the profession
Group Code of Conduct
This specialist group Code of Conduct applies to all members of the BCS Specialist Interest Group (SIG) for Defence. It sets out the standards of behaviour expected of members to ensure the Group operates securely, professionally, and in alignment with the values of the British Computer Society (BCS) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD).
