AI ethics and professional registrations are valued by the public – BCS provides the evidence

Our polling with YouGov (2025) found overwhelming public expectation that those working in AI should be professionally registered and accountable to independent standards.

We are working with civil service and public sector digital leaders (including contractors) to help them set a national example, by embedding Chartered status across their teams.

Ultimately, every technologist working in a high-stakes tech role, in particular AI, should be a registered professional meeting independent standards of ethical practice, accountability and competence.

That goes for the NHS, MOD, and every piece of critical infrastructure in the UK, including the private sector.
